Abstract

Monopoly and cartel practices are significant phenomena in the Indonesian business environment, with complex impacts on the economy and consumer interests. This study examines these phenomena with a focus on the legal implications of monopolistic acts and cartel practices, as well as a review of the role of the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) in Indonesia.

Through descriptive analysis, the phenomena of monopolistic acts and cartel practices that have emerged in recent years are found to include market domination by one company or group that harms competition, as well as cartel practices that restrict competition by regulating prices and market shares.

KPPU, as an independent regulatory body, has an important role in dealing with monopoly and cartel issues. KPPU seeks to prevent and detect monopoly and cartel actions, investigate alleged violations, and impose sanctions that have an impact on violating companies.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of sanctions imposed by KPPU shows that strict and consistent sanctions have the potential to create a greater deterrent effect on monopoly and cartel violations. In addition, the level of company compliance with competition rules is influenced by the consistency of law enforcement and the fairness of sanctions imposed.
